Alert in bordering areas of Bengal!

Bokaro: An alert was sounded in the Jharkhand-West Bengal bordering areas after West Bengal police launched its offensive against the CPI (Maoist) members in neighbouring Purulia district.

Bokaro SP Kuldeep Dwivedi has directed police stations situated in the bordering areas of the district to step up security in their respective areas apprehending infiltration of the Maoists from West Bengal. "I have instructed officers-in-charge of the police stations to intensify patrolling, especially near forest areas," said Dwivedi.

On Tuesday, the West Bengal police in a joint operation with security forces gunned down two Maoists in Purulia in an encounter. In the incident, two security personnel were also injured.

West Bengal government has launched anti-Naxalite search operations in Junglemahal zone, which comprises Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore districts.

The Bokaro-Purulia border covers several kilometers' long stretch starting from Chandankiyari police station to Pindrajora, Jaridih, Kasmar and Petarwar police stations.

Apart from several dozen villages situated near the bordering areas, there are dense forest and hilly terrain.

Kasmar and Petarwar areas, which boast of dense forests and hills, are used as corridor by Naxalites.
