IEDs found, five nabbed in various cases

RANCHI: Security personnel recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), hidden by Maoists under rocks, in a joint operation launched on the bordering areas of Ranchi and Khunti districts.

One IED weighed 40 kg while the other weighed 15 kg. The two were found near Gayjara and Tolsadih villages. The security personnel comprised CRPF, Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) and Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB).

In another incident, police arrested two criminals of Samrat group who were planning a major attack in the state capital. The two arrested are Ram Oraon and Sandeep Oraon.

"The duo had gathered at Jhiki village in Lapung. Police had got the tip-off that the two criminals were in the village prompting us to go for a and arrested them," said SSP Saket Kumar Singh. Ram Oraon had served 11 years in jail for murdering Choraya Oraon and Ram Balak Bhagat in 1994. He was a BSF jawan before joining the Samrat group.

Police recovered one 12 bore rifle, 55 bullets, cellphone from the two. Police also recovered 500 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 5,300 from one drug peddler Ahmad Ali near Line Tank Road here.

"Police had got the information that some people were dealing in drugs near Albert Ekka Chowk. A police trap was laid, suspected persons were frisked when nine packets of brown sugar were seized from one of the suspects," said Singh.

Police arrested three criminals responsible for six incidents of loot and theft in Tamar.

"We are trying to identify other members of the gang," he added.
