Red sympathizer held in Garhwa

GARHWA: Janeshwar Yadav was recently arrested from Chinia with Rs 8.78 lakh which he had collected from tendu leaf contractors. Garhwa SP Michael Raj S said Yadav was a sympathizer of the CPI (Maoist) who used to collect money from the leaf contractors and pass the money to the rebels. In Garhwa district, the CPI (Maoist) and other rebel outfits have been active particularly during the Tendu leaf season as Tendu leaf is a thriving source of income for the extremist outfits with illegal pickings flourishing inside the forests. Tendu leaf contractors cannot carry out work without offering levy to the extremists outfit, sources said. According to sources in the Garhwa Forest Corporation, the corporation has floated a tender of Rs 9.5 crore for 1.5 lakh gunny bags of tendu leaf from seven forests of the district. The seven forests include, Garhwa 1, Garhwa 2, Nagar Untari, Ranka, Bhawnathpur and Bhandaria. It is learnt from the sources that different teams have been formed by different extremist outfits for levy collection from various contractors for which local sympathizers of outfits play an important role. While, Maoists are extracting levy from Tendu leaf contractors at the rate of Rs 70 per gunny bag, other outfits have fixed different rates, sources added. On the other hand, police are keeping a close watch on the extremist activities and contractors who are paying levy to the extremists. The strategy drawn by Garhwa SP Michael Raj S yielded a good result. The SP has taken strong step against the Maoist sympathizer from Chinia who was caught by the police along with Rs 8.78 lakh levy money. Besides, he brought back the Chinia police station in-charge Shiv Kumar Singh to police line on charges of dereliction in duty. The SP also said that police have a close watch on contractors who offer levy to the extremist outfits. "They will not be spared at any cost," he said adding that stern action would be taken against them.
